7/17, Volunteer Meeting Minutes

VOLUNTEER MEETING
JULY 17, 2024  6:30 p.m.
Festival Foods - Janesville, WI

Mark Boeche, Vice-President led the meeting.  Other Board members in attendance included Emily Dykstra, Christina Zink, Rhonda Karlen, and Sheila JaDoul.

Welcome Kim Hayward!  Kim is currently fostering cats.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

SAFE (Savings Animals through Focused Education)/Dawn Espinosa:

  • There is nothing new to report.

CAFÉ (Companion Animal Food Effort)/Shiela Lund:

  • Shiela Lund indicated that the program is running as it should.

NOAH’S ANIMAL FUND/Rhonda Karlen:

  • Daisy, an 8-month-old Bernese mountain dog suffering from hip dysplasia, has been approved for $4053.

  • 11 animals have been helped so far in 2024.

  • $7362.75 has been paid out so far in 2024 (not including Daisy as her surgery has not yet been performed).

ANIMAL UPDATES:

  • Cats/Jessica Cullen:

    • There have been 9 adoptions.

    • There have been 4 surrenders.

    • Adoptions have been slow.  HSSW is currently holding a ‘Clear the Shelters’ event (spin the wheel for a ‘discounted’ adoptable) which could be a cause.

  • Dogs/Sue Showers:

    • Echo is still available.  She will be in Madison on 7/21 for a meet and greet.  She’s a sweet dog but needs to be the ‘only dog’ unless the family has the time to make her comfortable with other dogs.  She is a 40-pound Heeler mix.  She graduated from PetSmart's 6-week training program.  Loves people and kids.  Great for an active family.

    • Toby is a nearly 6-year-old Shih Tzu whose owner recently went into assisted living.  Toby is doing fabulous in his foster home and should be adopted very soon.

    • Large dog fosters needed:  a plea has gone out on Facebook.

Treasurer Report/Christina Zink:

  • June donations: $2089.06

  • June adoption fees: $1014.22

  • June foster vet bills: $2458.42

Events/Dawn Espinosa:

  • 10/26:  Save the Date!  Stormy’s Grilled Cheese end-of-the-year fundraiser in Milton!  More info will be presented as the date gets closer.

  • 11/3:  Mutts & Meows Mixer at the Red Barn in Evansville.  There will be Raffle Baskets, Silent Auction, Meat Raffle, 50/50.  If anyone is interested in helping plan, you are welcome to stay after the meeting.

5/15, Volunteer Meeting Minutes

VOLUNTEER MEETING
May 15, 2024  6:30 p.m.
Festival Foods - Janesville, WI

Steve Caya called the meeting to order.  Other Board members present included Mark Boeche, Christina Zink, Debbie Hess, Rhonda Karlen, and Sheila JaDoul.  No ‘new’ guests were in attendance.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

SAFE (Savings Animals through Focused Education)/Dawn Espinosa

  • SAFE is currently looking for someone to lead.

  • Linda Lipinski will be presenting at Silverwood in early June.

CAFÉ (Companion Animal Food Effort)/Shiela Lund:

  • FON continues to provide pet food to local food pantries.

  • The CAFE Program is short on dry and wet cat food (nationwide shortage continues) but is good on dog food.

  • Pet food donations can be dropped off at Mounds Janesville.

NOAH’S ANIMAL FUND/Rhonda Karlen:

  • Diesel (mass), Cooper (dental), and Remy (TPLO) have been approved.

  • The total amount paid out so far in 2024 is $2320.75.

ANIMAL UPDATE

  • Cindy (cats)

    • Marshmallow and Cassy have been adopted together.  They were with Friends of Noah for over a year after being rescued from a dark basement.

    • Out of the 5 kittens in Cindy’s care, 4 have been spoken for.

    • Cats in the Adoption Center are getting adopted quickly.  There is currently a bonded pair (Tiki and Gracie) in the Adoption Center.  Unfortunately, it appears Tiki (15 years old) is in Stage 2 kidney failure with a poor prognosis.

  • Sue  (dogs)

    • Bob and George have both been adopted.

    • Bob did great with his training from Livvy at PetSmart.  We plan on using Livvy in the future.

    • George was a foster-to-adopt who is doing great in his new home.

    • To date, only one application has been received for Echo (which was not a good fit).  She is a higher-energy dog.  It will take the right family to adopt her.

TREASURER’S REPORT/Christina Zink:

  • April adoption fees received:  $719.88

  • April donations received: $4126.12

  • April veterinary expenses (for fosters):  $1023.53

  • The Kitten Shower raised $618 and approximately 60 pounds of food/litter.

  • The Roden Flowers fundraiser netted $372 after expenses.  We will plan on this for 2025.

EVENTS:

  • 6/15, Classic Cruzers event at VFW in Janesville.  This event is open to the public.

    • Debbie and Jeff Hess are heading up this event and will be there from 9-2.

    • They will have a ‘spin the wheel’ game for the kids and a raffle basket drawing.

    • Donations are needed for a raffle basket (specifically looking for car care items).  Please contact Debbie if you can help with donations of car care items (or cash to purchase said items.)

  • 6/9, Mounds Customer Appreciation Event from 10-2

    • Event is being held at all Mounds locations on this day.

    • FON will be at Mounds - Janesville.

    • Volunteers are needed for 2 hour shifts.

  • 11/3, Mutts & Meows Mixer (tentative date - depending on Packer schedule)

    • This would be held at the Red Barn in Evansville

    • Event would consist of raffles (raffle baskets, 50/50, meat) and a silent auction.

    • Anyone interested in helping to plan can reach out to Dawn Espinosa.

MISC:

  • Our condolences to the family and friends of Linda Bown Vogt.  Linda was an ardent animal lover and a Friends of Noah sponsor.

  • The Mounds Adoption Center is in need of a volunteer(s) every other Friday evening from 5-7pm.  If interested, please contact Cindy Jenson.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17th at 6:30 pm.
